Yea, I seen mean people and tons and tons of beggers - but just as your riding past the rows and rows of tents and you think somber and hopelessness had overcome you; then you meet these amazing little people. That are little bursts of sunshine, just splitting with happiness and gratitude with our visit.
I asked one of the boys how did he really feel about all these different groups of Americans coming to visit and there was no hostility, not even the slightest bit of animosity. He simply told me that he loved to have someone to practice his English with - his name Olichard, he continued to tell me that he has a mom and a dad who live on the country side and that sometimes they even visit; it started to make me cry, it took every morsel of strength I had to keep my cool.
He (Olichard) told me that his main objective is to finish his studies so that he can help his parents - I couldn't understand. I couldn't for the life of me understand how this 14 year old kid living in this orphanage attending secondary school is so determined and so focused on wanting to help his parents get out of the countryside. He is amazing, and I saw so much of my God in him while he spoke to me. Then he pulled out his notebook and had me read all these phrases he had written down.
Olichard - big one ; Oday - little one :)
